The 2015/2016 ACES' Grad Project II: The Atmospheric Montoring Station

Climate change will continue to bring about more dramatic weather events across the globe. It is real and deniers are getting their due :) Experience with capturing, collecting, and archiving atmospheric data would be a tremendous asset in your skill set and you would be better prepared to participate in the significant societal changes that are fast approaching.

Imagine a stack mounted on the roof of one of the RSGC buildings visible from most vantage points on campus. Attached to the stack are sensors designed to monitor atmospheric conditions and communication devices transmitting the collected data. Now, imagine that the Dragon (or some other custom device) was capable of receiving and displaying the data. Finally, imagine a scaled down version of the Georgian AMS developed as a backyard resource for property owners as a possible enterprise endeavour.

Mark Robinson is a Toronto based storm chaser. He has been to campus before and I'm confident he would be available for inspiration and guidance. Check out his web site at www.stormhunter.ca.

An entry level Project Book and Kit exists to get us going.
